Dear colleagues and friends On behalf of the Mexican Society of Parasitology and the Latin American Federation of Parasitology, I welcome you to our great Mexico City and to the exciting XIII International Congress of Parasitology in 2014. As you browse our web page you can find assorted information relevant to the event, the city and our country.

Worth is to mention that parasitology is one of the main research areas in the most prestigious research institutes and universities in several cities within the Mexican Republic. Also, Mexican scientists have generated outstanding contributions to the knowledge of parasites and the diseases they cause. Our slogan “ancient parasites, old hosts, new knowledge” reflects the diversity of parasites, their hosts and their impact on global health and the environment; therefore it will contribute to gain new perspectives, ideas and networks.

This meeting program is based on three foundations:

  • 80 Symposia, mainly with invited speakers who are being recommended by outstanding scientists around the world and by Presidents of National Societies of Parasitology as well as 10 plenary conferences with world wide recognized scientists.
  • Electronic posters (we expect around 3000) to be presented in a huge display with specific schedules along the entire meeting. No paper will be used.
  • Para-exhibition, including pharmaceutical and laboratory supplies and equipment, books and e-information, national societies, non-government organizations and tourism in Mexico, as well as a continuous display of scientific images that will have electronic vote to select favorites.

The meeting will include cultural and gastronomic refinements

  • Welcome reception in the Anthropology Museum
  • Gala diner in the Autonomous University Palace
  • Closing ceremony at the Dolores Olmedo Museum
  • Downtown visit in “Turibus”
  • Xochimilco party in “Trajineras”
  • Daily lunch

Also worth to mention is that Mexico City is the oldest capital city in the American Continent; it has many cultural and gastronomic attractions and its geographic location reduces importantly the cost of international flights; further, the venue selected, Centro Banamex, is the leading congress venue in Latin America and has a strategic location in the city.

We look forward to seeing you in Mexico City at ICOPA XIII in August 2014
